Photography has been a big part of my life for longer then I can remember. When I was a young girl I used to cut up National Geographic Magazines and create giant collages of images that inspired me on the walls of my bedroom. Photos of people that inspired me. Photos of moments, laughter, tears, strength. I studied those images and wanted to create my own.
I was 20 when I got my first camera. It was a gift from my father after years of begging for one. It was a film camera with no automatic features. It required me to learn the fundamentals of photography. And I did. I packed up that little camera and took it on a two month trip to Nepal...which is where I decided that I would make photography not just a hobby but my career.
That trip to Nepal was 17 years ago. In amongst those years I became a psychiatric nurse, got married, started a photography business, got two dogs, struggled with depression, built a mental health advocacy group. I have lived. And through all those moments in life my camera has been by my side. Taking photos is how I connect with my world.
I started photographing weddings in 2009. People ask me all the time why I photograph weddings. For me, I get such joy from witnessing people's happiness and emotion. I love observing and documenting relationships. I guess that I am different from most wedding photographers in that it is the moments of the day that I am most concerned with capturing. That's the stuff you can never re-create. That's what weddings are ultimately about.
I have photographed over 150 weddings. I have been featured in a number of fancy magazines & blogs and traveled to lots of cool places documenting weddings (Ireland, Philippines, Mexico, United States). I am so grateful for those experiences. But what truly excites me is not the what and where...but the why and the who. I want to get to know you. I want to know your story and document it for how darn awesome it is. The moments. The emotion. I want to know who the important influencers are in your life and document them too. Because when the details are back in boxes, the dress is back in it's bag, and the flowers have started to wilt...your photos will keep all those memories and moments with your loved ones alive.
